Is Teeth Whitening Right for You?
When you come in for your whitening consultation, we will do an intraoral examination to make sure you’re a good candidate for this procedure. What we check for: extreme sensitivity, decay, gum disease or existing white fillings on front teeth. Tooth whitening can cause transient cold sensitivity. If your teeth are already quite sensitive, then whitening may not be comfortable for you, although there are a number of solutions we can recommend to alleviate this problem. Existing decay or gum disease needs to be treated prior to any esthetic dental care like whitening. We need to ensure that the foundation is sound prior to proceeding.
Professional teeth whitening products should not be used when pregnant or nursing.
At Home Systems That Work
Take-home teeth whitening is the most effective product available. The active ingredients in professional whitening gels penetrate your teeth to break down the deep stain molecules.
First, we take impressions of your teeth and make a pair of custom fitted trays. Then we show you how to place the professional whitening gel in the custom trays. Over the period of a few days, you will wear your whitening gel filled trays for about a half hour per day. Optimal brightness is typically reached in 10-14 days. Once you are satisfied you can stop the treatment and save your trays so that you can touch up again in the future. Whitening gel refills are available for purchase in our office, so you can easily keep your teeth white for years to come.
